Chris Jones, a chef and percussionist world Health Organization studied with the later Michael Ward, founded "Indian funk" band hundred and one Runners before Mardi Gras 2007. But the band's mission extends beyond Carnival. "The rhythm is more of import than seasonal worker music and 'Hey Pocky Way, ' " Jones aforesaid. Each song builds from the merchant ship up, with drums and percussion followed by guitars and bass. The number 101 has long factored in Indian lore. "To me, the name way everyone is included, " Jones said. "It's 100 addition you."
The one hundred one Runners includes Jones, A.J. Mallory and Lionel Batiste Jr. on percussion, Billy Iuso and Sam Hotchkiss on guitars, keyboardist Tom Worrell, bassist Scott Jackson, edgar Guest percussionist Alfred "Uganda" Roberts, Big Chief Monk Boudreaux and Golden Comanches War Chief Juan Pardo. A free hundred and one Runners show Saturday at Tipitina's is a CD release company for "The Thunder From Under, " a live CD recorded during the 2008 Jazzfest.

Avant-electro creative person The White Bitch celebrates the release of his new CD, "The White Bitch's Prey Drive, " at the Hi-Ho Lounge. The Morning 40 Federation throws itself a "Back from Alaska Celebration" at One Eyed Jacks. Outlaw land singer David Allan Coe is at the House of Blues. Guitarist/songwriter Alex McMurray plays early at d.b.a., followed by Anders Osborne. The Blue Eyed Soul Revue is at Mid-City Lanes. Astral Project lands at Snug Harbor.

Drummer Russell Batiste hosts a "Making the Band" version of the liberate afternoon Student Music Workshop Series at Tipitina's.

Jim McCormick grew up in New Orleans, earned a master's degree in creative writing from the University of New Orleans and is now a professional songwriter in Nashville. Artists world Health Organization have recorded or performed McCormick's songs include Tim McGraw ("Louisiana"), Luke Bryan (the top 40 single "We Rode in Trucks"), Randy Travis ("You Didn't Have a Good Time, " from Travis' new album), Trisha Yearwood ("Cowboys Are My Weakness") and Amanda Shaw (the title track of her "Pretty Runs Out" CD).
McCormick is featured at this week's early-evening "Ogden After Hours" series at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. Singer-songwriter Mark Miller, at one time of Deadeye Dick, is also on the bill.
Also Thursday, guitarist/vocalist Spencer Bohren diverges from his usual programme of phratry, blues and gospel to present an evening of protest songs -- everything from Woody Guthrie to Bob Dylan to Merle Haggard to Bohren originals -- at Snug Harbor; this is his final local show until Christmas. Susan Cowsill makes a rare appearance at d.b.a. Walter "Wolfman" Washington is at the Banks Street Bar in Mid-City. Dave Fera of Big Blue Marble and Adam Campagna team up at Carrollton Station. It's Zydeco Night with Geno Delafose at the Mid-City Lanes. Gal Holiday does an early set at the Rivershack Tavern.
